What is a Philanthropy Advisor?
A philanthropy advisor is someone focused on finding individuals, couples, and families that want help to get involved in charitable ways in their communities. The advisor's role is to discover and meet with potential nonprofits for the donor(s) to review and, in the long-term, manage the relationship, follow-up, etc. with the chosen nonprofits for the donor(s).
How do you find your clients?
Most of our clients come through word-of-mouth referrals. We meet with each client to talk about his or her values, dreams and world and community vision. Each client answers these important questions:
What are you passionate about?
How do you want to change the world? your community?
In what specific area do you want to make a difference?
Do you prefer to make a difference through giving dollars? time as a volunteer? board service?
How do you match a nonprofit with a donor?
After meeting with our client and gaining an understanding of his or her giving goals, we investigate which nonprofits match those personal passions. We then take time to get to know your organization so that we can create a thorough report to share with our clients. In the process we will:
Meet with your leadership team
Evaluate your financials
Visit your locations and/or events
Talk to your board members, donors, volunteers and recipients of your services
How does your client come to a decision?
After compiling the data, we do a thorough review and offer advice based on our findings. All final decisions for giving, type of donation and level of involvement are solely made by the client. We serve only in an advisory role, and do not control the outcome of any donation decisions.
Do you have a list of preferred nonprofit partners?
Because we value the unique passions of each of our clients, we embark on each journey with fresh eyes. We feel it is very important for donors to be connected and involved with the nonprofits they choose to support, and therefore we approach each situation as a unique opportunity for giving. However, we are happy to highlight your cause in our blog to bring added visibility to the work that you do, and would love the opportunity to increase awareness for your cause!
